Why Choose Luxury Vinyl Plank Kitchen Flooring Instead Of Hardwood?

by Vanessa Douglas

If you need new flooring for your kitchen, you might be considering installing hardwood flooring. High-quality hardwood flooring is certainly attractive and hard-wearing, but it also has its fair share of shortcomings, especially when used in kitchens and other rooms where liquid spills are a frequent occurrence.

Instead, consider installing Audacity luxury vinyl plank flooring. Luxury flooring products are in a different league from the cheap, thin vinyl flooring commonly used in commercial buildings, and has a number of advantages over traditional hardwood flooring that make it ideal for use in any kitchen.

Advantages Of Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring For Kitchens

Does Not Warp

One of the major disadvantages of hardwood flooring is its tendency to warp when exposed to moisture. This is because wood expands when wet, and contracts as it dries. When hardwood flooring absorbs moisture from spilled liquid or high levels of ambient moisture, some parts of the wood can dry out faster than others, causing it to contract unevenly and warp into an uneven shape.

Once hardwood flooring warps, returning it to its original shape can be very difficult and time-consuming. Badly warped planks will need to be replaced. Luxury vinyl plank flooring is completely immune to warping and can be exposed to high levels of moisture for long periods without becoming distorted. This makes it a safe choice for kitchens, and also very useful for bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other rooms where floor spills are likely.

Comfortable Underfoot

Most luxury vinyl plank flooring products are factory fitted with a soft, thick layer of affixed underlayment. Once the luxury vinyl plank flooring is fitted, this underlayment provides a welcome layer of cushioning underfoot, making luxury vinyl plank flooring surprisingly comfortable to walk on.

If standing in your kitchen for long periods while cooking tends to cause pain in your legs and/or joints, luxury vinyl plank flooring can provide more comfort and cushion than most hardwood flooring products. This makes it particularly suitable for kitchens used by elderly and/or disabled cooks.

Easy Maintenance

Hardwood flooring is certainly durable, but keeping it properly maintained can be a hassle. It must be cleaned regularly with specialized hardwood cleaning solutions and will need to be refinished every few years to prevent its surface from becoming rough and porous.

Luxury vinyl plank flooring requires comparatively little maintenance compared to hardwood flooring. It can be swept clean easily, and tougher stains can be removed with a damp mop and mild detergent without fear of warping. It will never need to be refinished, and if individual planks are damaged by dropped saucepans or other heavy impacts, they can be replaced quickly, easily, and cheaply.

Cost-Effective

Good quality hardwood flooring is never cheap, and can easily cost thousands of dollars if you have a large kitchen. Luxury vinyl plank flooring is much more economical, and its long-lasting durability makes it an excellent long-term investment.
